How to set unicode

The following charecter exist in oracle

  • AL24UTFFSS
  • UTF8
  • UTFE
  • AL32UTF8 -- default
  • AL16UTF16

To set up UTF8 run the following command

c>sqlplus 
c>user-name:sys
c>password:sys
sql>show user
sql> select value from NLS_DATABASE_PARAMETERS where PARAMETER = 'NLS_CHARACTERSET';
sql>SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE;
sql>STARTUP RESTRICT;
sql>ALTER DATABASE CHARACTER SET INTERNAL_USE UTF8;
sql>ALTER SYSTEM DISABLE RESTRICTED SESSION;
SQL>ALTER DATABASE OPEN;
sql>select value from NLS_DATABASE_PARAMETERS where PARAMETER = 'NLS_CHARACTERSET';
